Job Description:
Larkin University (LU) College of Pharmacy (COP) is seeking a
full-time Chair for the Department of Clinical and Administrative
Sciences. The Chair serves as the direct supervisor of faculty in
the department and is responsible for upholding high performance
standards while ensuring that faculty adhere to university,
college, and departmental policies. The suitable candidate for this
position should have the knowledge, skills, and abilities of a
faculty member with teaching and research credentials at the rank
of Associate or Full Professor in addition to demonstrated
leadership qualities. The Chair for the Department reports to the
Dean of the College of Pharmacy. The ideal candidate will help grow
as well as lead the Department in a culture that holds people
accountable, values LU's research mission, and respects process and
quality; someone who will positively influence and mentor faculty,
and demonstrate leadership in educational innovation, practice, and
research.LUCOP's accelerated Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program is
fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy
Education (ACPE) and is an integrated three-year curriculum. LU is
a private not-for-profit 501(c)(3) university and consists of the
College of Pharmacy, College of Biomedical Sciences, and School of

responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the
following:
- Work in partnership with the Dean's leadership team, including
Assistant Deans and other Department Chair, and Directors, to
ensure programmatic advancement, experiential training, excellence
in teaching, curricular development, assessment, quality research
and scholarship, and the expansion of clinical practice.
- Manage department personnel activities and ensure
implementation of processes and policies.
- Assign teaching responsibilities and oversee the development
and delivery of instructional activities of faculty with a focus on
active learning and critical thinking.
- Maintain an active research program and seek extramural
funding.
- Passion and commitment to mentor faculty to develop and
maintain an active research program and promote scholarly
activities within and outside the department, and promote
innovation and scholarly activities of practice faculty members at
their pharmacy practice sites.
- Work with the Office of Professional Affairs to meet the
experiential needs of the students and the curriculum.
- Facilitate the development of the pharmacy practice site for
faculty in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Practice and
Professional Affairs and strategic partnerships externally.
- In consultation with the Department faculty, recruit and
recommend to the Dean new faculty for appointment.
- Mentor faculty and promote faculty development
- Conduct annual performance evaluation within the Department and
oversee Department review of applicants for promotion and/or
long-term contract.
- Schedule and lead regular meetings of the Department
faculty.
- Recommend faculty to the Dean for different committees.
- Prepare annual budget requests and recommend to the Dean on the
expenditure of other funds available to the College.
- Promote safe working conditions and procedures in the
department.
- Represent the Department to external institutions,
organizations, and agencies in building academic partnerships.
- Serve on the leadership team of the College of Pharmacy and
support strategic initiatives of the institution.The successful
candidate will possess a PharmD or a PhD in Social and
Administrative Sciences with considerable academic experience and
demonstrated success in teaching, research, and leadership. The
preferred candidate should have a strong background in pharmacy
practice and/or research. Ability to work as part of a team in a
fast-paced environment, strong communication, and problem-solving
